The P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists was founded in May 1965. With nearly 300 members, whose work represents all visual-arts media, PSA is dedicated to providing its members with opportunities to exhibit their art, both in the Pittsburgh area and beyond southwestern Pennsylvania.

In addition to providing exhibition opportunities, the Society since its inception has been dedicated to encouraging creative thinking about the arts through public dialogue. At our general membership meetings, held twice a year, the guild engages speakers to explore some aspect of the arts. The general public has always been invited to these stimulating programs.

Any individual eighteen years old or older who lives within 150 miles of Pittsburgh may apply for membership by submitting three original pieces of art to a screening by the Board of Directors. Screenings are held in the spring and fall of each year.

SPECIAL NOTE: Part of our celebration includes a PSA Birthday Gift Exchange: If you would like to participate simply bring a wrapped present from your art studio ($20 value or less) and it will be added to our gift exchange table! This could be something as simple as some rolls of masking tape to a small creative work… Your choice! This is, of course, optional but if you bring a gift you get to receive a gift!

What to Expect:

Introduction of New Members: Let's welcome those who have recently joined our creative community!

A Brief History of PSA: Take a stroll down memory lane as we discuss how the PITTSBURGH Society of Artists was formed in 1965 and go over some of the highlights over the past six decades.

Interactive Art Trivia Game: Test your knowledge and enjoy some friendly competition!

Cake and PSA Birthday Gift Exchange: Indulge in some cake and participate in our gift exchange (See above for details).

Next, we will hold a brief business meeting where we will discuss the future of PSA. We'll wrap up the afternoon by raising a toast to our beloved PSA and all that lies ahead.

Lastly, since PSA was born in the 60s we invite members to dress in their best “60s garb“ to really create a groovy atmosphere!

We look forward to celebrating with you and making this milestone a memorable occasion!

Do you have the skills and know-how that can benefit the PITTSBURGH Society of Artists?

The PITTSBURGH Society of Artists is an organization run by artists for the benefit of artists. The guild has no professional staff. Consequently, administration and leadership is achieved through the participation of its members.

We are seeking two positions on the Board of Directors:

• VICE PRESIDENT

• PROGRAM / EVENTS CHAIR

The VICE PRESIDENT stands in for the president when the president is unavailable. The vice president often is later elected as president when the current president's term ends. While the current president has remaining time in office, this is an ideal time to fill the position of vice president.

The PROGRAM / EVENTS CHAIR is responsible for preparing, organizing and presenting educational and art-related programs for PITTSBURGH Society of Artists members. This could also include hosting workshops, art critiques and coordinating art outings. (Previous outings have included the Frick, Phipps, the Warhol and the Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens.) This is a rewarding job that allows you to leave your studio and connect with other like-minded artists in the community. It is a great way to create a sense of community and learn more about other artists’ creative processes.
